What to do
One of the most famous destinations in Sicily is the Zingaro Oriented Reserve. It stretches for 7km from north to south and has two entrances, San Vito lo Capo to the north and Scopello to the south. Lo Zingaro manages to attract the attention of many many tourists, those who love trekking, those who love flora and fauna or those who love the sea will be satisfied, it is a true paradise on earth where mountains and pristine seas kiss. A walk in the Zingaro reserve will remain unforgettable, beaches, crystal clear waters, olive trees, carob trees, old farmhouses and archaeological finds are the treasure chest of this nature reserve established in 1981.
The Zingaro reserve can only be visited on foot, of course trekking is the main activity, walking along the three available routes you will have the opportunity to see different species of birds, some of them rare or endangered such as the Bonelli, the Peregrine Falcon, the Kestrel, or the Imperial Raven. From south to north you will come across three small museums, the Naturalistic Museum which preserves and describes the spontaneous plants used in medicine according to the tradition of rural communities. The Museum of Peasant Civilization collects the old tools for the cultivation and processing of wheat and you can still find the "weavers", true craftsmen very skilled in the construction of objects woven with vegetable fibers. Last but not least, the Museum of Marine Activities, which houses rudimentary objects used for fish processing which bear witness to the close link between man and the sea. Many paths to follow with different difficulties, all enclosed in three routes.
The simplest and most popular is the coastal one, 7km long which will take you from the entrance of Scopello to that of San Vito lo Capo, giving you the opportunity to swim in one of the splendid coves bathed by clear waters. The second route is perhaps the right mix to discover the Zingaro Oriented Nature Reserve, slightly shorter with its 6km it zigzags between the coasts and the peaks making it more difficult than the first. The third is the most demanding, for people expert in trekking, it is called Zingaro Alto. 14 km long, it crosses the entire reserve from the coast to the hinterland, also reaching the 912-metre-high Monte Speziale. If you want to walk a little and relax while enjoying the sea, the Zingaro is the right choice in this case too, to the north coming from San Vito lo Capo the first cove called Tonnarella dell' Uzzo awaits you, from the south on the Scopello side you will find Cala Capreria, both wonderful but being the easiest to reach, they are the most crowded. If you want more calm and privacy, don't worry, a few more minutes of walking and you will find Cala Marinella, Cala Berretta, Cala della Disa respectively from north to south. If laziness assails you, don't worry, bring what you need for a picnic with you and you will take advantage of the equipped areas from where you can admire a unique panorama that only the Gypsy can offer you.

The enchanted Zingaro Nature Reserve with its paths and trails winds for several kilometers between descents, climbs, caves and coves. It is good to always keep in mind that it is an uncontaminated and wild place devoid of any service and comfort, simple precautions to adopt will make your excursions safe and serene. The use of closed shoes with rubber soles is strongly recommended, the ideal choice would be trekking shoes, open shoes are not recommended, especially flip-flops. Water must not be missing, the Zingaro is not equipped with services, under the scorching sun you must be well hydrated and manage your strength optimally, also considering the return times.
